Applied Design
By our definition, applied designs are built forms that possess one or more functional requirements. These designs encompass most everything in the built environment to include furniture, lighting, private and public space interiors, architecture, landscape architecture, playgrounds, tools and utensils, musical instruments, toys, medical devices, etc. If executed correctly, these would be considered meaningful forms. The designs incorporate user needs and will be ergonomically, environmentally, economically and functionally sound. Effective designs are realized through one of two processes: either the design > build process where programming and planning precede the built form, or through the build > design process where the built form is made by the user as a direct response to functional requirements. Vernacular designs are also a result of the build > design process. Chet Ross Designs will develop forms using each of these processes, and all will be executed with superior craftsmanship.
